Gyeonggi is the most populous province in South Korea, with a combined population of 25.6 million people (approximately half of the national total) across three administrative zones covering a total area of 11,730km². It is a landlocked region whose name literally means ‘surrounding the capital’, describing its torus-like encapsulation of Seoul, the Korean capital. Its capital is Suwon, one of 28 cities across the province, and its official symbols are the dove, the gingko, and the forsythia. As with much of the country, Gyeonggi is primarily mountains, with tall jagged mountain ranges and deep river valleys.

Imjingak is a park that was created to bring consolation to homesick of refugees who fled North Korea during the Korean War. About 5 million tourists visit here annually. Located about 7km south from the Military Demarcation Line and 500m from Imjingang Guard Post, Imjingak was made in 1972. At the Gyeonggi Peace Center you can watch a video on the current status of North Korea and materials and pictures on display about military, politics, society and lifestyle in general of North Korea. Mangbaedan is an altar where the displaced would perform a kowtow to their parents or grandparents left behind in North Korea to soothe their nostalgic resentment on traditional holidays or whenever they miss them. Since there are grand grassy hill and outdoor performance hall, Imjingak is also to be recommended as a family outing resort.

With the best jogging/walking course in Korea designated by the Environment Ministry, the Lake Park is one of the best tourist attractions and place to rest in the Seoul metropolitan area that offers beautiful views of the season’s best all year round.
